My writing

Tomorrow

(The edited version of ‘Today’)

Today I am a key hole
Today I am a green shard of polished glass on the shore at Day’s Bay
Today I am a window closed against the south breeze
Today I am a rumpled white sheet at the foot of the bed

Today I am a black lace glove caught at the back of the closet
Today I am the vibration fingers make when they touch a face
Today I am the sound of someone forgetting to breathe
Today I am the first rise of blood that swells from a wound

Today I am an empty pelvis
Today I am a hollow lung
Today I am a wish bone
Today I am the need to walk away
Tomorrow I will be the skeleton key.
