I am procrastinating writing more job applications. Naughty, I know, but, as surprising as it is, I do get tired of trying to convince people I’m perfect.
Being bored and broke, however, is not a scintillating situation. However much I love Wellington, there’s only so much time I can spend window shopping before I break and go on a spending spree that leaves my credit card fearing for its life.
I have to say, I am shocked and saddened by how expensive books are in New Zealand. I somehow forgot this fact when I was in Canada, where I was lucky enough to be buying books every other week. You can get a good paperback for $10-12, a bestseller for $15. And then there’s the copious numbers of second hand stores perched on every street. It’s a bookworm’s wet dream.
So popping into the Warehouse for some mystery fic and being met with $20-40 price tags was a slap in the face. I guess it’s back to Wellington City Library for me!
On that note, if any of my readers happen to be in the Wellington area and are interested in starting or joining a book club, let me know. I really want to have another, my last one kind of fell by the way side with people having babies and leaving the country. (Congrats again to Nat, Melissa, and Meg 🙂 )
I have a very ambitious reading list which is probably going to die a slow, whimpering death with the prices of good reading material here. Who is collecting a huge profit here, I wonder? I’ll be using Trademe and Fishpond to their full extent! And, of course, that very special place – the library.
